Beth takes Pharaohs gold at fencing World Championships!

The North East saw its first fencing World Champion this week with Darlington born Beth Davidson making the winning point at the Veterans World Championships being held in Cairo! Beth already secured a silver medal in the individual event the day before so her eyes were on making it one place better in the team!

The day started well with the British team beating Italy, Japan and the US in the preliminary rounds. This set up the final with Germany who boasted the current European Champion! The match swung strongly from the start with Great Britain creating a 12 hit lead into the final bout. Beth’s main objective at this point was just to fight for the next 5 hits to take the World title for the team, taking the final score to 30-15!

The title of World Champion goes alongside Beth’s many other accolades with 13 National titles across senior and veteran age groups, 3 times European veteran golds, 3 times Commonwealth golds in senior and veteran championships!
